New US tariffs come into force for UK exporters.

New US tariffs have come into effect, replacing the previous measures on UK imports which expired today.

For most UK businesses, there is no immediate change, with duties on the majority of UK goods entering the US remaining at 10%, alongside existing Most-Favoured Nation tariff rates.

There is also positive news for the whisky sector, with confirmation that US tariffs on whisky have now been removed.

The UK continues to hold a competitive position in key sectors, including steel and aluminium, where goods face a 25 per cent tariff compared with 50 per cent for many other countries. The UK’s tariff arrangements for pharmaceuticals and automotive products also remain unchanged.

However, businesses in some sectors may still have concerns about competitiveness, as imports from other countries have been treated differently under the new arrangements.

UK exporters are encouraged to review how the changes could affect their supply chains, costs and future opportunities in the US market.
